Abstract
The Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe WMAP has mapped both the temperature and polarization of the cosmic microwave background over the full sky in five frequency bands between 22 and 94 GHz From these maps we deduce the parameters of the standard cosmological model In particular using the polarization maps released in March 2006 we can deduce the optical depth to the surface of last scattering This in turn allows us to deduce properties of the quantum fields present when the universe was well within a trillionth of a second old
